LAGOONS
Guido Cepax and Piero Macola.
A comic book family saga

Traveling exhibition
First stop: Palazzo Loredan, Campo Santo Stefano, Venice, October 5th – November 3rd, 2024

The project consists of an immersive exhibition on the work of two important cartoonists of Venetian origin and relatives among them, Guido Crepax (1933), master of erotic comics, and Piero Macola (1976), esteemed author of graphic novels.
In addition to the original plates, the exhibition will feature immersive enlargements in which the protagonist is the water of Venice – of the canals and of the lagoon – in the work of the two cartoonists.

Finally, the exhibition will be accompanied by a program of workshops on comics conducted in collaboration with the Venice Academy of Fine Arts and with the participation of the Venice Art High School students. A workshop will be dedicated to illustrating the game Arsenalia by Venti di Cultura, link.

The exhibition is free to access and will last from October 5th to November 3rd, 2024, at the Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti (Palazzo Loredan), Campo Santo Stefano, San Marco 2945. The exhibition will then travel to other Italian and foreign locations.

(Milan, 1933) is considered one of the most important Italian cartoonists and probably the best known internationally in comics for adults. After graduating in architecture, he immediately preferred to devote himself to drawing, starting with record covers, then continuing as an advertising graphic designer, creating campaigns for Shell, Campari, Honda, Dunlop, Terital, Fuji and many others. In 1965, thanks to the magazine Linus, he created the character that made him best known:

Valentina. Crepax did also numerous transpositions of literary classics: among the most famous Emmanuelle, Histoire d’O, Dracula, Doctor Jekyll, The Trial. In forty years of activity, he also drew hundreds of illustrations for magazines, cinema, television, theatre, fashion and design. Roland Barthes, Alan Robbe-Grillet, Gillo Dorfles and Umberto Eco have written about him. He died on July 31, 2003.

PIERO MACOLA
